Victorian sash windows – restored

Our clients had moved in to a lovely terraced cottage and immediately they knew that they had to restore the sash windows which had been replaced by some awful modern units – installed by the previous owners. The look of the terrace had been ruined and with only an opening fan light, ventilation was also poor.

Sadly, once the strip out began it was clear that a degree of butchering had been undertaken and so there were additional repairs to the boxes needed, new pulleys were installed as the old ones had been removed and of course new sliding sashes.

We were particularly fortunate to learn that the next door neighbour had very thoughtfully asked to keep the old sashes when the windows were changed and so we were able to have faithful copies made to match the original units.

The results are clear to see when you compare the before and after shots and I get a real buzz when I go along this road and am delighted that we were asked to work on this project.
